This immersive tour will experience Iowa’s world-class contributions to agriculture and farming innovation. The tour will stop at Iowa State University where you will visit the Meats Lab and Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL). Additionally, you will visit the family-owned Greenfield Farms. The ISU Meats Lab is a federally inspected facility with the capability for slaughtering and processing meat animals including cattle, hogs, sheep and goats. This state-of-the-art facility supports technology and product development that includes slaughtering, cutting, packaging, freezing, meat particle reduction, stuffing, smoking, drying, cooking, mixing, curing and slicing. The ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Lab is a national leader in protecting animal and human health where they process upwards of 125,000 cases each year and conduct more than 1.6 million tests annually. You will gain insights into groundbreaking research and how they are applying world-class technology to real-world problems. Greenfield Farms is excited about agriculture. This family-owned farm services row crops and all things agronomy. From seed corn production to custom spraying, you will witness sustainable farming in action that blends innovation with tradition to enhance soil health, crop yields and livestock management. Tim Couser will share information on biochar – an activated carbon that is changing the game when it comes to manure, soil amendment and animal gut health.

Kick off your OFA Convention experience with a fun-filled, relaxed tour showcasing two of the top destinations Des Moines has to offer. Step back in time with a visit to the birthplace and museum of legendary Hollywood icon John Wayne, where you'll explore his life, legacy, and love for America’s heartland. Before departing the museum grounds, be sure and take a picture with the Freedom Rock. This large boulder is painted every year with a different Thank You for our nations Veteran’s to honor their service to our country. There are 99 Freedom Rocks in Iowa – one in every county. After you say “goodbye pardner” and board the bus, you will wind down your day in style at the picturesque Jasper Winery, enjoying locally crafted wines and great company. It’s the perfect way to soak in a bit of history, savor some local flavors, and start your convention journey with friends!
Tour bus will leave Prairie Meadows Hotel at 1:00pm and arrive back at 6:30pm.
